The mission of the Calexico Unified School District is to insure the educational success of all students by having high expectations, a commitment to excellence, and a comprehensive program, confirming the belief that all students can learn and become responsible, productive members of a competitive society.
The role of the Special Education Department is to provide support services to all schools for the purpose of achieving our mission. Special Education services are provided only after all resources of the general education programs have been considered and utilized. The Special Education Staff (IEP Team) have the responsibility of determining eligibility and placement of students in order to provide a free and appropriate public education (FAPE). Once students are identified and placed, the ultimate goal of special education programs and services is to remediate problems associated with learning and/or provide coping mechanisms to the extent that students will be fully or at least partially immersed within the general education programs. Children, who meet eligibility criteria, can receive special education instruction and related services designed to meet their specific educational needs up through the age of 21.
